Virtualisation

Virtualisation is a software technology which enables the efficient utilisation of computer system resources. Computers are currently designed to run a single operating system and the applications which go with it. Virtualisation removes this limitation and enables simultaneous operation of several operating systems on a single piece of hardware.

The advantages of virtualisation:
- more efficient use of hardware resources, lower power demands
- homogeneous virtualised platform
- ability to manage allocated resources (CPU, RAM, HDD) according to requirements
- simulation of test or technically-demanding solutions without the need to own or provide additional hardware
- simple system migrations to better-performing hardware, without being forced to reinstall the virtual computers
- simplified backup, rapid system snapshotting
- rapid system restore from backup in the event of hardware failure
